Breaking the Chains of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
I sat in my Mazda 323 in a parking lot and wept as the rain poured down, a living nightmare for me; With reduced visibility, I would fear hitting a pedestrian, frequently stopping and checking under my car for an injured body. The rain finally stopped, and I drove home. When I got inside, I immediately called the emergency department of a university hospital and asked for psychiatry. I was scheduled to see a psychiatrist the next morning. I made it a priority to get to my appointment on time. I would no longer fight this battle alone. The psychiatrist diagnosed me with obsessive-compulsive disorder. She also prescribed Fluvoxamine. I heaved a sigh of relief. I would begin treatment that was long overdue.
